The Site contained three 420,000-gallon aboveground storage tanks (ASTs) and associated piping, concrete dyke walls, an offloading pier and a filtration building. The ASTs were in an advanced state of degradation. A small rupture in one of the tanks prompted an inspection by the Maryland Department of the Environment's Oil Control Program.

Arc Environmental assisted the museum in procuring funding from various state sources including the Maryland Department of Business and Economic Development (DBED) Brownfields Revitalization Incentive Program (BRIP).

Arc prepared a complete set of bid documents and specifications to identify the most appropriate and cost-effective contractor. By compiling several bids for the scope of work, Arc Environmental was able to accelerate the cleanup and demolition process as well as provide the Client with the best pricing.

Arc Environmental completed the cleanup and demolition of the three ASTs, which included cleaning each tank and removal of a total of 30,000 gallons of residuel product and sludge. Once the AST were removed from the Site, post-demolition sampling revealed the presence of petroleum contaminated soils requiring excavation and proper disposal. Arc Environmental removed a total of 150 tons of petroleum-impacted soil from the Site.

Arc Environmental also performed a geophysical survey including electromagnetic (EM) ground-penetrating radar (GPR) in an effort to locate two reported former sludge storage underground storage tanks (USTs)

Upon review of the closure report prepared by Arc Environmental, Site closure was granted by the MDE Oil Control Program (OCP). The project was completed approximately 2 months ahead of schedule and all MDE OCP and client deadlines and budgets were met.
