Arc Environmental, Inc. conducted full-time asbestos abatement monitoring, carbon monoxide monitoring, and dust monitoring of the renovation of the Student Services Building at Baltimore City Community College in Baltimore, MD.

Initially, Arc Environmental was contracted to perform dust and carbon monoxide sampling only; however, upon review of construction specifications, it was determined that an industrial hygiene firm was not under contract. Arc Environmental was then contracted to conduct the asbestos air monitoring for the asbestos abatement. Upon further review of specifications and after a building walkthrough, Arc Environmental noticed that not all suspect ACM was sampled and accounted for. A follow-up asbestos survey was conducted and approximately 15,000 square feet of floor tile and mastic, 10,000 square feet of gypsum board and joint compound, and 600 thermal system insulation (TSI) fittings were discovered and added to the asbestos abatement.

Carbon monoxide and dust monitoring was conducted to ensure the safety of college employees and students. Measurements were taken from occupied buildings that shared a common wall with the renovation area.

The project was completed in seven phases and a visual and air clearance by phase contrast microscopy was used to clear each phase.
